Summer Youth Theatre (The Student Theatre Project) Returns with Two Shows in 2012
Alexandria Area Arts announces its summer 2012 student theatre projects. Building on the success of the 2011 Student Theatre Project's production of Seussical The Musical, the AAAA is excited to announce our 2012 Student Theatre Projects, School House Rock and Aladdin.
School House Rock. The summer projects kick off with this "grammatically correct rock opera" which is based on the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning cartoon series, and is easily one of the most fun and energetic musicals to ever hit the stage. Featuring songs such as "Conjunction Junction," "I'm Just a Bill," "Interplanet Janet," and many more - School House Rock will bring both the nostalgia of the cartoon, mixed with an updated feel developed by our cast during the project.The School House Rock project will begin rehearsals June 11, with performances July 5-7.
Within days of the final curtain for School House Rock, rehearsals will begin on Aladdin. Aladdin. Disney's resourceful young hero and wise-cracking genie come to life on stage in this special adaptation of one of the most popular animated movies of all time. Aladdin features all the most loved songs from the movie, including "One Jump Ahead," "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali."The Aladdin project will begin rehearsals July 11, and the performances of the exciting romp through the clouds will be August 2-4.
The Student Theatre Projects are a summer intensive educational and production experience geared towards students entering 5th grade up to graduating seniors.Auditions for both shows will be held June 6th or 7th. When auditioning, students may choose to participate in both shows, or just one of the productions. If students can not make auditions, video auditions (via youtube) will be accepted through June 5th. All students interested in participating will be involved in the show, and auditions will be held for featured soloists and principal roles. Student participation fees are $110 per student per show. If students participate in both shows, the summer fee is $200 (a savings of $20.00).
