YOU’RE INVITED TO THE AWESOME 80s PROM
Dear Class of 1989 (or any other class ever…) IT IS TIME FOR THE PROM!
The Awesome 80s Prom is a 21+ party and a show set at the Wanaget High’s Senior Prom… in 1989. SO… GET OUT YOUR 80s ATTIRE AND PREPARE FOR A BLAST FROM THE PAST!
All your favorite characters from your favorite 80s movies are at THE PROM, from the Captain of the Football Team to the Exchange Student, from the Geek to the hottie Head Cheerleader, and they’re all competing for Prom King and Queen. Come “Back In Time,” to quote a Huey Lewis tune, and join the breakdance circle or just sit back and watch the 80s drama unfold. Come on, you know you have a Members Only jacket somewhere… and if you’re lucky, you’ll even get to dance with The Captain of the Football Team or the Head Cheerleader!
HOW THE PROM WORKS
The Awesome 80s Prom is live, interactive theatre… but it’s unlike any play you’ve ever been to!
Instead of sitting in the auditorium at the Alexandria Area Arts Theatre, the PROM is being held at the Holiday Inn where ALL FOUR BALLROOMS have been transformed into a fabulous flash-back time machine!
And it is a dance (after all, that is the point of PROM) – with all your favorite 80s hits, and the play unfolds around you!
There are actors at the prom (playing your favorite stereotypically 80s characters) who will be competing for YOUR votes for Prom King and Queen. (Don’t worry if this all seems a bit nuts… Missy Martin and your prom committee will make sure everything flows smoothly).
What are my ticketing options?
PROM TICKETS ($30 per ticket):
You can come to the prom solo or with a group of friends – it doesn’t matter to us and NEVER FORGET the 1989 Wanaget High Beaver’s Class Motto: THE MORE THE MERRIER!Tickets are $30 per person. This ticket includes the show and dance and some light munchies… There will be a cash bar at the prom as well! We are encouraging advanced tickets, but we will have tickets available for walk up starting at 6:00pm each evening of the prom. 신용카드현금화
HOTEL PACKAGE ($150 for 2 tickets and a Guest Room):
If the prom and and hotel room is more in line with your memories… We do have a HOTEL PACKAGE which includes 2 tickets to the show ($60 value) and a overnight stay in a Holiday Inn guest room ($130 value) all for $150! Those rooms must be booked through Alexandria Area Arts in advance to get the package deal!
VIP ADD ON ($20/package added to any order):
Birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor/bachelorette parties, reunions… if you are celebrating a special occassion at THE AWESOME 80s PROM, the VIP PACKAGE is for YOU!
This $20 add on gets your group reserved VIP table seating (table seats 6), names/group mentioned in the show, special attention from the characters of THE PROM and a special gift for the person or persons of honor! This package can be added on to any order.
What does “interactive” mean? And… how involved will the audience get? (or… am I going to be be dragged up on stage?)
Interactive means that the play is happening around you – you won’t get forced to do anything you don’t want to! The 80s weren’t THAT evil! HA! You won’t be asked to “play a part,” but you are “part of the prom!”
You can get as involved as you’d like… it’s all up to you! But, at a minimum, we hope you experience all the nostalgia of the prom, including dancing, getting your photo taken, and of course DRESSING UP in your best 80s PROM ATTIRE!
Dressing up in 80s gear is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED, but not required. No one will be turned away from the prom… unless you cross a chaperone!
As mentioned, this is a bit of a different theatre experience. While some scenes will happen “on stage” and at the dance, many scenes will happen all around you… in the parking lot, in the rest rooms, at your table, directly behind you… you never know when or where 80s drama will unfold! But… no doubt… all the drama will influence who you vote for for King and Queen!
Why should I come to the Prom?
It’s a totally radical opportunity to party like it’s 1989, again! Attending the prom shows community and school spirit and supports the Alexandria Area Arts Association – your community theatre.
Plus… you’ve probably never been to theatre like this before! Theatre where you are up on your feet partying while the play unfolds around you.
If you’ve been to theatre like this before… whether it was Awesome 80s Prom, or one of the other interactive theatre events like Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding… well, then you know why you should come!
How is the prom even possible?
The AWESOME 80s PROM is a live, interactive theatre experience with a dance that is produced and financially supported by YOUR community theatre, Alexandria Area Arts Association, and produced with permission from Samuel French, Inc., Ken Davenport and the Class of ’89. The Awesome 80s Prom is supported and sponsored by the Holiday Inn of Alexandria (online here) and Yesternight Radio (Music You Miss – Thursdays from 9-Midnight on 92.3, more online here).
